Applique

I have been busy adding applique to improve three quilts. First I have finished the leaves on the houses quilt, and think it links the blue and green sections adequately. It's a bed quilt for a little girl, and I think she will love it. The left hand side is needleturn and since it was going pretty slowly, I decided to try and speed things up by doing the right hand side leaves by the freezer paper and spray starch method. In the end, I made a couple of yo-yo flowers, which looked like screwed up pieces of fabric, but in any case, they were too large to blend with the leaves, so I decided to leave well alone.

By this time I was in applique mood, and decided to add something to the green and yellow baby quilt. These jumping rabbits seemed to be the answer, and definitely improve this quilt. They are Heat and Bonded and zigzagged.

By this time, I was on a roll, and with my Heat and Bond out, decided to continue to embellish. I had had a Linus quilt donated, which was not really in very child-friendly colours. I thought a nice lorry would set it off nicely. This is the result.

The lorry's turned out great, but I don't think it's made much impact on the quilt! Any suggestions?

Love the applique. How about putting a few more lorries on the quilt. That might make it more child friendly.

Love and hugs gina xx

I love the appliques you added to the quilts, especially the bunnies on the baby quilt. I can't help on the lorries quilt. You have fixed it up quite nicely though.

You have been given an award. Take a break at my blog and see what it is.

A nice yellow digger to go with the lorry would be good - as for the bunnies they turn a pretty mediocre design into something really sweet - good call!

Wonderful! While you're on a roll, just add a few more vehicles (diggers, trains, cars etc) to the 'roads' of that quilt...

I pretty much agree with everyone else! The bunnies are lovely - they really make the quilt. The lorry was also a great idea as the quilt looks so much like a road or bricks in the wall - some other building site vehicles would look great! I am so impressed that you are getting so many quilts finished - puts me to shame!

Your quilts are beautiful! I am so jealous of your patience for that. I tried to quilt once, years and years ago and all I got was a bunch of fabric cut into pieces. Then I quit (and started painting).

I really do love the quilt with the houses on it. Great job! And thanks for stopping over at my blog. I never thought of writing bad words in the dust. I may have to do that and change my header : )

I'm loving the appliques you've added. With the lorry one, I'd add a couple more vehicles (odd numbers are always good) and then it will be good to go :)
