The sewing-onto-Vilene method worked very well, and enabled all the people to be successful and complete a block or two. It was heart-warming to see the sense of satisfaction and pride on the faces of these professional ladies, as they completed their first block. Two people didn't have time to finish a block, so have taken fabric to complete the block at home.
All agreed that it was both relaxing and satisfying (we all knew that already!) and said it would be nice to do it again one day.
I now have 16 blocks, with 2 more to come, so have been playing with arrangements. I can easily make more blocks to make enough for a Linus quilt. What about this radiating diamond?
Individual diamonds like this will be easier to extend, I suppose.
Flying geese look quite good.
This attempt at a pinwheel hasn't worked at all!
Let me know which arrangement you like the best and as soon as I get the extra blocks, I'll make it up.

Glad it was all a success...do you think you've converted (well you know, inspired) any of the ladies to continue quilting?
I like the first one. But to be honest they are all nice!
I rather like the flying geese - it gives a sort of herringbone effect - you see I told you it would work - you might even have a convert or two, especially if you show them the finished article
I am excited your Learning at work group went so well. I like the top quilt very much, but they all look good. I have never done a string quilt. They look like they would be good Linus quilts. I liked the name you gave the Mile-A-Minute quily-Crumb Chaos. I have decided to name mine Crazy Crumbs. You go girl. You are inspiring me.

What a great idea--I like the flying geese, too. I like the idea of a learning at work day. It sounds like a good way to build a community spirit with your fellow workers.
Sounds like you need to set up a lunchtime quilt group! Then you could all make enough small quilts to have one each! I think it is a great idea because many people work through their lunch hours and I think it is so important to have a work free break. BTW I like the individual diamonds too!

ohhhh....i like the radiating diamond! What a fun day at work...i bet something like that once a month would be a lot of fun and relaxing for the women over lunch...in fact, i bet they would look forward to it. What a neat idea! Perhaps you could create them, and then raffle them off to the folks at work, etc.
